Lereko Mfono, is an actor, writer, drama facilitator who honed his craft at the National School of the Arts and later at Wits University, studying applied drama.
His toured as a storyteller with Gcina Mhlophe’s Zanendaba Storytellers, and recent performance credits include An Ode To The Bottle (2014) and 2015 Naledi Award nominated play for best Ensemble Secret Ballot.
Lereko has participated in various national and international TYA writing projects, such as the ASSITEJ Inspiring a Generation programme that led him to travel to France, Paris in 2013 to develop award-winning play Narrative Dreams. He was also among three playwrights to win the 2013 Imbewu-Scribe national playwright's competition with his play Malebone. He has recently taken part in Kennedy Centre's New Visions/New Voices festival where his new play, The Kids from Amandla Street was developed.
Lereko has facilitated and taught Creative Arts in Correctional Centers, High Schools, Corporate and took part in the national Artist-In-Schools programme. In his spare time, he writes short stories and runs an Applied Drama company called Seeds of Water (SOW). He shares his love and passion for theatre with the young across schools, festival workshops and diverse spaces.
