Fuentes, William (Cuba, Mexico)

William Fuentes García
Licenciado en Arte Teatral, La Habana, Cuba 1992. Director de la Compañía Teatro 2. En 1994 se especializa en el Teatro de Títeres para Niños. Ha recibido varios premios como actor, director y dramaturgo: Premio Nacional de Dramaturgia de Teatro de Títeres para Niños, Cuba 1996 y México 2003; dos premios nacionales de la crítica teatral a las mejores puestas en escena, 1995 y 1996; Premio Nacional de Actuación, Cuba 1994. Sus obras han integrado la colección Libros del Rincón de la Secretaría de Educación Pública de México, 2002, 2005, 2006 y 2007. Pertenece a la Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC) y a la Unión Internacional de la Marioneta (UNIMA). Ha colaborado con el Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes de México, el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y la Secretaría de Educación Pública. Desde 1998 reside en México.

Hiriart, Berta (Mexico)

Berta Hiriart is a playwright, theatre director and creative workshop coordinator. She has published about twenty books for young readers or teachers, writers and theatre groups interested in working for children and teenagers. Some of her recent publications are: El mundo del teatro (The World of Theater), Escribir para niñas y niños (Writing for children), Jugamos al teatro? (Do we play the theatre?) and the plays Niñas de la guerra (Girls of War), Se busca familia (Looking for a family) and Una historia de gemelos (A story about twins).

Even though she usually directs her own plays, several groups have also staged them in different cities of Mexico and other countries. Some of these works have been translated into English, German and Polish. She has received the National Award for Published Work 1994, the National Award for Play for Children 2004, and the Award of Theatrical Essay 2005.

Leyva, Amaranta (Mexico)

Amaranta Leyva was born in Mexico in 1973. She is an actor, puppeteer and playwright. Puppet theatre has been her means of expression, in particular, writing and directing for children’s audiences. In her own words: “to explore a child’s world allows me to find my most hidden, profound and intense emotions of being human.”

She comes from a theatre family and has been exposed to puppetry from a very early age. Her early relationship with the puppetry world inspired her to explore and develop this art form. Since then, puppets of all styles have influenced her life and writing. She has become a leading playwright in Mexico, writing for children’s theatre and puppet theatre. Her stories speak of children and their dreams, desires, fears and happiness.
