Janaczewska, Noëlle (Australia)

Noëlle writes plays, performance texts, monologues, poetry and radio scripts for audiences and readers of all ages. Her work has been performed, broadcast and published throughout Australia and overseas, and includes over a dozen plays written for children and young audiences, or created with youth theatre companies. In 2010 Noëlle worked with senior high school students on the documentary theatre short Smashed which explores issues of teenage drinking. (Available from  http://australianplays.org) That same year her play on an environmental theme for children, The River That Ran Out, was Highly Commended in the Trinity College London International Playwriting Competition (for audiences 11 years and under). In 2007 This Territory was produced by the Australian Theatre for Young People and Powerhouse Youth Theatre at the Sydney Opera House. Nominated for a 2008 AWGIE (Australian Writers’ Guild) Award for Community and Youth Theatre, This Territory is published by Currency Press.  

The recipient of numerous awards, prizes, and nominations, Noëlle’s writing for young people encompasses shorts and full-length plays, monologues, solo pieces and performance poetry, large-cast works, adaptations, lyrics and visual scripts. Her work is studied and performed across the educational sector, and features widely in university drama courses.

Noëlle is a member of the 7-ON Playwrights, whose collection of monologues for drama students and young performers, No Nudity, Weapons or Naked Flames is published by The Federation Press in 2012.
