Plays for the Young Competition (NZ)
Playmarket is putting a special effort into gathering and co-ordinating the best of all plays that fall into this category, from adaptations of fairy tales for tiny children, to plays written by teachers especially for the classroom, to the most searing explorations of adolescence written by teenagers themselves - with no limits on length or cast size. They aim to encourage strong, original and inventive writing for young people both from those new to writing for the young, and the experienced.
This is an annual competition for NZ playwrights which is helping them build up a good database for this category of work. They aim to gather the best of the best together for publication in an occasional anthology as part of the Playmarket Play Series. The winner will also be offered some script development resources, as appropriate, and all who make the short list will be included in Playmarket's Script Register for distribution to potential producers. Should anyone want to license your play, they will offer to negotiate the licence for you.
This is an open competition for produced and unproduced plays by any NZ writers of any age, and you may submit as many as you like.
