MICHAEL J. BOBBITT, Producing Artistic Director - Adventure Theatre has directed, choreographed and performed at many theatres in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. He studied creative writing and music at Susquehanna University and theatre and dance at The Washington Ballet, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and NY University’s Tisch School of the Arts (Cap 21).

He is a member of the Dramatist Guild of America, the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and the African-American Playwright’s Exchange. He is an Artistic Associate at the Smithsonian’s Discovery Theatre. As a writer, his work has been accepted in the 2006 NYC International Fringe Festival and has received grants from the National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Producer-Writer Initiative, The Creative Projects Grant from the Montgomery County Arts and Humanities Council, a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Grant and the Puffin Foundation.

His new musical (conceived, directed and choreographed), in collaboration with Broadway/Film composer Stephen Schwartz, THE STEPHEN SCHWARTZ PROJECT, will received its World Premiere at Metro Stage. Michael was mentioned in the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas’ National News Letter as “up and coming artists.” Michael has taught theatre and dance at George Washington University, Catholic University, Montgomery College, Howard University, and the Washington Ballet. A member of Leadership Montgomery Class of 2010, Michael serves on the Board of Directors for Theatre for Young Audiences, The DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative, a Commissioner for the Montgomery County Commission on Children and Families and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Bethesda Chevy-Chase Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, Michael volunteers as a co-chair for the Young Non-Profit Network of DC – Executive Director Roundtable and the Maryland Citizens for the Arts – Emerging Advocates Committee. Recently, he was a scholarship recipient of the Theatre Leadership Institute (Austin, TX and Atlanta, GA) with American Alliance for Theatre and Education and spoke at Lead America’s Theatre Conference at Fordham University, The National Alliance of Musical Theatre, the Emerging Arts Leaders Symposium at American University, and the Southeastern Theatre Conference.
