Sarić, Lana (Croatia)

Lana Šarić was born in 1983. In 2007 she graduated Dramaturgy at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. She writes theatre plays, film scripts, radio drama and works as a theatre and film director. Most often she writes plays for youth and children theatre. Her plays are translated in English, German, Spanish and Italian.

Her theatre debut was the play “Flesh” about the mother-daughter relationship, which she also directed.  In “Iphigenia” , staged in “Mala Scena”, Zagreb, she wrote a new version of Euripides’s play. The “Skyscraper” was staged in one of the National Theatres in Croatia and was also adapted as a script for a short movie (expected broadcasting in 2012/2013).

From 2004 to 2010, with her plays, she participated in the numerous international conferences and festivals, such as Interplay Europe and World Interplay, Autorenforum Frankfurt and most recently the Festival of the European Dramaturgy, Chile. In 2007 the “Skyscraper” won the third Croatian National Prize for playwriting.

In 2010 she directed a documentary movie “(In)curable optimist", which was first presented at Zagreb Dox, international festival of documentary film and was broadcasted in the National Television.

She is the chief editor of a webpage www.drame.hr, dedicated to the Croatian contemporary playwrights and there plays.
